Bicycle Registration
As part of our crime prevention program, the UMHB Police Department provides a free registration program for bicycles. Each year a number of bicycles are reported as missing and/or stolen. As part of the recovery process, officers will need a description of the bicycle and its serial number or owner applied number. Historically this has been information which owners have not had.
To aid in the recovery of stolen or missing property the department provides a free bicycle registration program. As part of this process officers will record the make, model and serial number of your bicycle. Additionally, we will engrave your driver's license number on the bicycle and apply a registration decal. This information will be maintained by the police department indefinitely. All of this information will prove to be invaluable should your bicycle be missing.
You can register your bicycle at the UMHB Police Department at any time. Additionally, UMHB Officers will conduct bike registrations at various sites on campus throughout the year. When you register your bicycle, you will need the following:
- Bicycle
- Driver's License
- UMHB ID
While it is impossible to make your bicycle 100% theft proof, there are some simple steps you can take to increase the security of your bicycle and its parts:
- Use a strong lock; cable locks are easily cut.
- Lock your bicycle in racks provided by UMHB in a manner in which the bike cannot be easily removed.
- Routinely check on the condition of your bicycle.
- Lock parts attached to the bicycle with quick release mechanisms.
REMEMBER: Cyclist must obey all traffic laws.
